How we pick products

Snout & Tail Co. is a small, independent Canadian site. We write gift guides and everyday-product roundups for people who share their home with dogs and cats. Here's exactly how a product makes it onto a page.

1. It has to be popular for a reason

We start with products that are well-reviewed on Amazon.ca and in stock, and that show real demand: a place on Amazon.ca's Best Sellers or Movers & Shakers lists, or a topic pet owners are actively searching for. Then we ask whether it solves a real problem, like a bored dog on a rainy day, a cat who lives at the window or paws that hate road salt.

2. We read the whole listing

We read the full Amazon.ca product page: the title, bullet points, size charts and description. We also skim what buyers say. Every feature on our pages comes from that listing. If the listing contradicts itself (a title says "waterproof" but the bullets say "wind-resistant"), we tell you.

3. We're honest about what we haven't done

We don't run a testing lab, and we never claim to have tested a product ourselves. Our job is to do the reading and comparing for you, and to explain plainly who each product suits and what to check before you buy.

4. We keep pages simple

Star ratings and listing details on Amazon change all the time, so we focus on what a product does and who it suits. Every product button opens the item on Amazon.ca, where you can see sizes, full details and delivery dates.

5. Money never decides the verdict

We earn a small commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. Brands don't pay to be included, and commission rates don't change what we say. Read our full disclosure.

6. We keep pages up to date

Each guide shows when it was last updated. When a product goes out of stock or changes, we replace it.
